MATCH REPORT: ENFIELD 2-0 CLAPTON

E’s kick-off season with comprehensive victory over Clapton !

Enfield made an excellent start to the Essex Senior League season with a 2-0 triumph over Clapton. The E’s broke the deadlock just before the break as the captain Reece Conway slotted home from close range. After the break,Olly Miles doubled Enfield’s lead as he headed home from inside the area.

In the opening stages of the match, Clapton were the better of the two sides but were unable to score past ‘keeper James Bransgrove. However, on 14 minutes, Jamie Cureton’s men almost took the lead as Ramsay’s corner was headed off the post by defender Luke Wilson. Meanwhile, up the other end, the Tons had an opportunity through Darnell Kithambo as his deflected shot was kept out by Bransgrove.

Later in the half, Enfield began to grow into the game and threatened Clapton goalkeeper Tino Ferreira on a few occasions. A minute before half-time, the E’s made the breakthrough. The ball was played to Ramsay on the near side, who delivered in the cross towards the path of Conway as the skipper slotted home to make it 1-0. That goal was the difference at the break for Enfield, who were ahead by the one goal.

In the second half, the E’s played much better and had opportunities to double their lead. With 50 minutes gone, Dwade James had a chance from close range, but he was denied by the goalkeeper. Enfield’s good performance in the second half soon paid off as they doubled their lead on 61 minutes. Substitute Jack Folan crossed the ball into the middleas Olly Miles headed home from close range. Despite, it being cleared off the line, the ball was over the goalline, and the referee gave the goal.

Enfield continued to threaten in front of goal in the latter stages of the match. Substitute and debutant Callum Ibe almost found the back of the net for the E’s. Ramsay crossed the ball into the forwards path, but his effort was kept out by Ferreira. In the end, Jamie Cureton’s men held out for the three points as they started the new season with a win. Next up for the E’s is a trip to ESL newboys Clacton on Tuesday night.
